Who are we?

The International Education Agency Ltd (IEA) was established in 1976 after the creation of Papua New Guinea as an independent nation.

The IEA is a non-government organisation accountable to an elected Board of Directors operating under the provisions of the PNG Companies Act 1997. It is PNG owned, with a long-term commitment to the nation, managing 17 schools across all provinces and delivering early learning, primary, secondary and technical education to an international standard.

The IEA College of TAFE operates under the legal umbrella of the International Education Agency Ltd, and holds separate registration with the Papua New Guinea National Training Council as a training organisation (Registration number 002). The College is recognised as a provider of higher education by DHERST and is included on the National Online Selection System with students eligible for the recently established HELP loans program.

The College holds articulation agreements with James Cook University and with Southern Cross University, with graduates of the College eligible for credits towards degree studies. Qualifications issued are delivered under the College’s PNG registration but are aligned to Australian Training Packages and mirror the unit and competency structure for qualifications endorsed by ASQA.

Training is delivered through full time institutional enrolments at the College's four campuses, and in partnership with industry using a mix of face-to-face delivery, workplace assessment, and in some cases on-line delivery. The emphasis of all College delivery is on skills transfer. This focus on capacity building for the PNG workforce underpins the College’s philosophy. All IEA trainers are Papua New Guinea citizens and are highly qualified and experienced industry professionals holding national training registration. Many trainers also hold the Australian training qualification of the TAE40116.

The College is the premier provider of National Certificates of Training and Assessment and organisations contracting for delivery of these qualifications to their training divisions include Bomana Police Training College, PNG Defense Force, PNG Maritime College, National Airports Corporation, PNG Ports, St Johns Ambulance, Porgera Joint Venture, Frieda River, Hastings Deering, and most recently Coffey International through the Australian Awards.

The College has a record of partnering successfully with international training institutions to deliver Australian qualifications to Papua New Guinean professionals. These partnerships benefit from the College’s capacity to coordinate the international partner’s travel and visas, ‘in-country’ accommodation, security, and travel. Additional to this is the benefit of having the College manage the logistics of training delivery and student attendance. Partnerships have supported training delivery from Australian RTOs contracted by the Australian Federal Police, Australian Ombudsman, Australian Awards, and the Education Capacity Development Foundation.
